Through Life Support Services

Supporting military platforms, systems and equipment during their time “in-service” can account for two- thirds of the total cost of ownership. BMT understands that industry suppliers are increasingly required to drive down these longer-term support costs, whilst also assuming more risk and accountability to meet specified capability, availability and reliability targets. Effective Through Life Capability Management maximises availability and reduces the cost of ownership by influencing the design of systems and equipment to make them more efficient and, ultimately, more supportable. At BMT, our engineers are able to work as an embedded part of any design team to ensure that new equipment takes Through Life Supportability into account. We can also help to enhance existing capability or extend the role of existing assets beyond their original design life. We are experts in the UK MoD’s required Supportability standards — we helped to develop DEF STAN 00-600 — and have applied these standards to a wide range of projects, from the largest ships that the Royal Navy will ever have, to minor equipment that will be used by all military personnel. This has given us a unique, in-depth knowledge which enables us to apply the principles and practices of up-front Supportability Engineering in order to optimise and manage Through Life operational sustainability.
