Through Life Support Services

Through Life Supportability and the optimisation of whole-life cost is an integral part of any technical solution, and can be achieved by an appropriate tailoring and integration of the ILS Elements from concept design. BMT has successfully worked with Prime Contractors over many years to deliver cost-effective solutions on a wide range of major platforms. We offer: Flexible Supportability Options At BMT, we help our clients to strike the right balance when understanding the relationship between the cost of the ILS programme against the cost of the overall programme, the requirements, standards compliance and the related risk to the end customer. We have developed a sliding scale of flexible options for ILS support activities. These have the potential to provide a streamlined and effective through-life management programme of a platform whilst satisfying MoD’s minimum expectations and requirements. Our potential ILS options are scalable across each domain to suit the project and in assuring the platform’s design maturity. An example of this approach would be in the Supply Support domain, where the three options would be scalable as follows: • Accepting OEM recommendations (Option 1) • Provisioning analysis for mission-critical equipment (Option 2) • Complete provisioning exercise across the whole platform (Option 3) While Option 1 may reduce the analytical costs, confidence in OEM recommendations will be limited due to their lack of awareness of the platform’s operational parameters. Option 2 would bring increased confidence on selected systems whilst Option 3 would extend that confidence to cater for the whole platform. The value of extending the analysis to all equipments and systems would require extensive data gathering that in itself may not be cost-effective. In this example, we would recommend that Option 2 would provide the customer with sufficient assurance in the spares levels for critical items, with the recognition that some risk remains as to the rest of the platform assets.
